Kickstarter Update #3
We head into our most important week with high hopes and a lot of positive developments. Currently we have 77 backers and are just under 20% funded with 19 days to go. We have some significant verbal commitments that are expected to come in this week that we expect will get us over 50% and then it will be a hard push to the finish line. Below is an update I shot on Friday in front of the Olympic.
From a creative and project profile standpoint, the week felt like a breakthrough. Two major L.A. blogs, LAist and Curbed L.A., did features on the project and campaign. Producer Willard Ford and I met with important downtown stakeholders who are going to throw their weight behind the project. For the documentary, I connected with legendary Olympic boxer Mando Ramos’ widow, a writer working on project about the punk scene at the Olympic, the son of the man who ran the Olympic from the opening until 1940, and a highly credible and very enthusiastic editor who wants to work on the film.
At the end of the day, a Kickstarter campaign is supposed to do just that–kickstart a project that needs a little help to get going. Though we’ve still got a mountain of money to raise, we are deepening relationships with our existing friends in the boxing and wrestling communities and building a whole new set of friends and supporters around the city.
